• A New High Order Weno-based (HOW) Relativistic Hydrodynamic and Magnetohydrodynamic Code and Its Application to Astrophysical Phenomena

  • Abstract: We present two new codes for studying astrophysical phenomena such as ultra-relativistic jets, shocks, and turbulence. The first code is a relativistic hydrodynamics (RHD) code based on the fifth-order finite-difference weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme and the fourth-order strong stability-preserving Runge-Kutta (SSPRK) time-integration scheme and realistic equation of states, Extensive tests were performed to assess the accuracy and efficiency of different WENO reconstructions and different time discretizations. The code includes a high-order flux averaging along the transverse directions for multi-dimensional problems, and modified eigenvalues for acoustic modes to control the carbuncle instability. The second code is a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code also based on the WENO and SSPRK, espacially adopted a new high order finite difference constrained transport (CT) algorithm to preserve the divergence-free condition of magnetic fields. We developed a new high-order CT algorithm to match the high-order spatial accuracy of WENO. Extensive tests were performed, including the propagation of circularly polarized Alfven waves and the propagation of a magnetic flux loop, and the new MHD code achieves high order and high accuracy. All codes are parallelized with MPI and OpenMP. In this talk, we discuss the schemes and algorithms used in our code and present its application to astrophysical phenomena such as ultra-high energy cosmic ray generation through radio galaxy jets.

• A New Adaptive Mesh Refinement Code in Finite Volume Method and Its Test

  • Abstract: Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) is a numerical algorithm that dynamically adjusts the local resolution of the mesh to increase the accuracy of the simulation while keeping overall efficiency. AMR software can be widely used in various numerical simulations, especially numerical relativity simulation, which needs to cover huge spatial computational domains. In this talk, I am going to present very details of the AMR code developed by a collaboration of KASI, NIMS, and IBS and show the various test results.
